Buying furniture will be at the top of the list for many renters and new residents of Lubbock, Texas.

To help new and potential Lubbock Lease Home tenants and provide a resource to new residents in the city, I’ll cover all the options for buying furniture in Lubbock.

I’ll cover all options from discount to premium and luxury furniture buying in Lubbock. For added thoroughness, I’ll explore alternative furniture-buying options in the city, such as thrift stores and online marketplaces.

Different Options For Buying Furniture In Lubbock, Texas

I’ll start with the most obvious option: furniture stores in Lubbock. The city has dozens of furniture stores covering all styles and budgets.

To keep this guide concise, I’ll cover the top three stores in each budget category. However, if you don’t like what you see, there are plenty of options at each budget level that you can easily find with a Google search.

Discount Furniture In Lubbock

For many new Lubbock residents, discount furniture will be the go-to. With Lubbock being a major college city and Texas Tech University alone adding over 30,000 people each year, many of you likely will want good furniture without the sticker shock of higher-end stores.

1. Flatland Furniture

Flatland Furniture is a good choice if you don’t want to break the bank but still want something that looks good.

The store offers everything from beds and dining room sets to rugs and outdoor furniture. There are also financing options if you need to go that route.

You can find Flatland Furniture at 3113 34th Street. It is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM.

2. Texas Discount Furniture

As the name implies, Texas Discount Furniture is another Lubbock location for furniture at affordable prices. The retailer offers furniture options, including living, dining, bedroom, mattresses, and home accents.

Like many other standard and discount furniture providers, Texas Discount Furniture offers various financing options.

The retailer is located at 1901 Buddy Holly Ave and is open between 9 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Saturday.

3. American Freight

American Freight is a discount retailer with locations across the United States. If you want more options, then this can be a good furniture store to start at. They also offer online shopping and delivery along with personalized financing.

One of the critical advantages of American Freight is that it can deliver a broader range of items due to the company’s size. They also offer a wide selection of clearance items both online and in-store.

The Lubbock location is at 4426 34th Street Suite B and is open from 10 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday and 11 AM to 6 PM on Sunday.

Standard Furniture Options In Lubbock

If you’re a bit less price-conscious and want a more excellent selection of furniture, plenty of furniture stores are in the standard/mid-price range.

The following three represent some of the top furniture stores in Lubbock in terms of selection and pricing. These will offer mid-priced options up to higher-priced furniture and, frequently, discounted items on clearance.

1. W.D. Wilkins

W.D. Wilkins has been a Lubbock institution in business since 1932, so you can rest assured they represent quality and service. The company stocks most of its furniture locally, ensuring quick delivery or, if you prefer, same-day pickup.

W.D. Wilkins has many brands, including Ebel, Hanamint, Treasure Garden, etc. Everything from dining sets to office and outdoor furniture can be purchased at the store.

The furniture store is located at 3111 50th Street and is open from 10 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.

2. Furniture Row

Furniture Row in Lubbock is one of your best options if you’d prefer a giant retailer with a vast selection.

The store is a sizeable strip-style building with four different sections, including Denver Mattress, Furniture Row Bedroom, Furniture Row Kids, Furniture Row Dining, and Furniture Row Living. Within these, you can find anything and everything needed for a comfortable home.

Furniture Row offers financing, as do many other furniture stores in the city. There is also a range of pricing for the items they offer, including regular clearance items.

The building is located inside the loop at 5021 W Loop 289. The hours of operation are between 10 AM and 8 PM Monday through Saturday and 12 PM to 6 PM on Sundays.

3. Bob Mills Furniture

Bob Mills is another retail chain in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. While not as large as Furniture Row, they still offer a wide selection of furniture, so this is another good option if you want a more extensive selection.

The Bob Mills branch in Lubbock offers all types of furniture, including bedrooms, dining rooms, living rooms, kids’ rooms, offices, outdoor spaces, and other options. Bob Mills offers various financing options for different budgets and situations if needed.

You can find Bob Mills Furniture at 6000 TX-327 Spur. Their hours of operation are from 10 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday and from 12 PM to 6 PM on Sundays.

Premium Furniture Buying Options In Lubbock

Some may be looking for a more premium or luxurious furniture selection than you can find above. Rest easy, as there are options for this in Lubbock, though perhaps not as many as in more prominent cities in Texas.

The below two stores offer premium furniture selections from higher-end brands. However, both provide regular clearance items, so check them out, even if you are on a stricter budget.

1. Miller Waldrop

Miller Waldrop is one of the newer furniture stores in Lubbock with a vast assortment of furniture. You can find almost anything you need, including living areas, dining rooms, bedrooms, sleep rooms, home offices, kids, and a wide selection of accent items.

Even though the store offers a more premium selection, they have financing options if you choose that route. You can also quickly deliver items from the Lubbock warehouse to your home, ensuring quicker delivery times.

The Miller Waldrop showroom is located at 7004 Salem Avenue and is open between 10 AM and 6 PM Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.

2. Dillard’s

One final furniture store to mention is Dillard’s department store located in the South Plains Mall. Dillard’s is a premium department store, so you should expect their furniture selection to be higher priced than many other options.

You can find many premium brands, including Bernhardt, Pulaski, and Natuzzi Italia. One thing to note is the selection at Dillard’s is a bit smaller than other locations. However, they have more accessories and other home goods as they are a large department store.

The Dillard’s Furniture in Lubbock is located on the second floor of the South Plains Mall of the Women’s Department store on the mall’s north side. Their hours of operation are from 11 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday and from 12 PM to 6 PM on Sundays.

Alternative Furniture Buying Options In Lubbock

While furniture stores are certainly the easiest way to guarantee you find the furniture you want, there are plenty of alternative buying options, especially in Lubbock.

As there are four different colleges and universities in the city, there are always students moving in and out and needing to get rid of furniture. This is on top of non-students looking to sell or get rid of perfect used furniture.

If you are price-conscious, consider the alternative furniture-buying options below before going to one of the city’s furniture stores.

Buying Furniture From Facebook Marketplace

Facebook marketplace is one of the best places to look for gently used furniture. I’ve heard from many of our tenants that they’ve found everything from desks to sofas and other furniture, often paying very little.

While great deals can be found throughout the year on the marketplace, the best times to find good deals are at the end of the winter and spring semesters when graduates leave the city.

It’s not uncommon to find decent furniture for free, as students are desperate to get rid of their furniture before moving and want to avoid paying fees to apartment complexes. The only downside with the Facebook marketplace is that you must arrange pickup and delivery.

Buying Furniture From Thrift Stores

Another alternative for buying furniture in Lubbock is the city’s multiple thrift and second-hand stores. These are too numerous to name but include locations such as Goodwill and the American Council for the Blind.

While thrift stores can be hit or miss, it is not uncommon for good furniture deals to be found at these locations. They often have older furniture at very reasonable prices, and the added benefit is that you are typically contributing to good causes.

Don’t expect to get all the furniture you need at these thrift stores. However, you will typically be able to find things like desks, bed frames and headboards, nightstands, and dining tables.

Things To Consider When Buying Furniture In Lubbock

As I noted above, you can find a wide selection of furniture throughout the city. So, it would be best if you didn’t have to worry about finding furniture you like.

However, there are two particular considerations that you need to be aware of when purchasing furniture. Both have to do with the weather in and around the city.

Dry Climate

The first primary consideration is that Lubbock has an arid climate. Over time, this can contribute to warping with solid wood furniture.

With solid wood floors, for example, it is always recommended to keep homes indoors at a certain level of humidity. The same is true if you opt for certain types of wood furniture.

It’s not uncommon for drawers and doors on furniture, such as cabinets and dressers, to begin warping and close poorly. So, ensure you know any humidity considerations and understand proper care if you buy solid wood furniture.

Dusty Summers

The second consideration is the dust and dirt you will face when maintaining your furniture. Lubbock is known as the dirt city, and that’s not hyperbole. There are regular dust and dirt storms, including some severe storms called Haboobs.

These storms are more pronounced during the late spring and summer months, especially during drought.

While this is more of a concern for outdoor and patio furniture, expect your indoor furniture to become dusty quite quickly. So, choosing furniture conducive to the cleaning level you want would be best.

Overly ornate furniture with lots of nooks and crannies means you must take excellent care and spend more time cleaning. This is in contrast to flat and level pieces of furniture with fewer details.

There is no right or wrong with the furniture you choose, but be aware you will be dusting and selecting your furniture appropriately based on how much time you want to spend cleaning.
