There are tons of healthcare options in Lubbock making it easy for new residents to find medical care. One of the main reasons for this is the multiple universities in the city that offer pre-medical and medical programs and various nursing schools and training programs.
To make it easier for you to understand the medical landscape, I will cover the major health systems in Lubbock, along with the major insurance programs and specialty care facilities.
Because individual practitioners change often, I will avoid making recommendations for specific doctors. This way, you can ensure the information in this article remains evergreen and reliable. While there are other medical systems in the city, these are the primary two used by most people in the city.

The Covenant Health system accepts major insurance providers and makes bill pay easy through an online portal. As of 2024, the system has been actively expanding with new hospitals and care systems under construction in the city and an active five-stage modernization of their older hospitals.
University Medical Center
University Medical Center, or the UMC health system, is the second of the major hospital systems in Lubbock. Unlike Covenant, UMC is a public healthcare system with hospitals and clinics only in West Texas.
The main hospital is located just northwest of Texas Tech University and consists of both the hospital, UMC cancer center, specialty clinics, and Texas Tech Physicians. The nursing school is also in this building.

Finding a Doctor In Lubbock
As noted previously, with multiple universities, medical school programs, nursing programs, and specialty education resources, there is an abundance of medical treatment options in Lubbock. This includes primary care physicians and family medicine options.
The best way to find a doctor in Lubbock is to go to your insurance providers website and to look through their in network options. You can then go to Google and look at the reviews and ratings for each doctor, until you find one that aligns with what you are looking for.
Because doctors come and go, I cannot recommend a doctor or hospital in Lubbock, as that information will likely be out of date. However, the information on your insurance provider’s website will most certainly be kept up to date and help you find a doctor in the city that you can trust.
